On February 27th, at 8:10pm local time, the National Theater in Prague will host an eclectic musical program, broadcast live over the ČT Art TV station.

The concert called Národ Sobě – Kultura Tobě (A Nation for Itself – Culture For You, in reference to the patriotic slogan displayed above the stage of the National Theater) seeks to highlight creative professions and their plight during the pandemic.

The three-and-a-half-hour-long program will feature over 40 performers, mostly Czech pop stars from various genres, ranging from rap, to folk, to “turbošansón” and various experimental theater ensembles. The orchestra of the National Theater will make brief appearances with bands like Lucie and Chinaski and actors and dancers from the National Theater will collaborate with contemporary musicians. Ondřej Cihlář, Petr Prokop and Tomina Jeřábek of the VOSTO5 alternative theater will moderate the event.

„We have prepared a musically and visually unique program, one unlike any other in the history of the National Theater. A big thanks for the three-and-a-half hour marathon belongs to everyone who has been preparing this event for the last two months,” said organizers David Gaydečka and Martin Voňka.
